Philippines Weather Update Dec 2014

HAGUPIT a Super Typhoon enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR)early this morning.

Increasing its threat to Eastern Philippines particularly Eastern Visayas with strong winds and probably Bicol Region this weekend.

According the Weather.com.ph this is their analysis:

FRIDAY EARLY MORNING: Continues to intensify as it traverses the southeastern part of the Philippine Sea…about 580 km east-southeast of Borongan City, Eastern Samar [2AM DEC 05: 11.4N 130.7E @ 260kph].
SATURDAY EARLY MORNING: Strengthens further as it slows down and turning slightly to the west, across the central-southern part of the Philippine Sea…about 310 km east-northeast of Borongan City, Eastern Samar [2AM DEC 06: 12.0N 128.2E @ 280kph].
SUNDAY EARLY MORNING: Maintains its strength as it continues to slow down and turns further slightly to the west, across the western-central part of the Philippine Sea, closer to Eastern Samar…about 115 km northeast of Borongan City, Eastern Samar [2AM DEC 07: 12.3N 126.2E @ 280kph].

 

 

According to Google Weather advisory:

Location of eye/center: At 4:00 PM today, the center of Typhoon “RUBY” was located based on all available data at 720 km East of Surigao City (10.6°N, 132.0°E).

Strength: Maximum sustained winds of 205 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 240 kph

Movement: Forecast to move West Northwest at 15 kph.

Forecast Positions: Typhoon “RUBY” is expected to be at 360 km East

Tomorrow afternoon – East of Guiuan, Eastern Samar .

Saturday afternoon – expected to make landfall over the Eastern Samar-Northern Samar area.

Sunday afternoon – expected to be at 30 km West Southwest of Romblon, Romblon.

 

What to do:

  1. Prepare flashlights, batteries, matches, kerosene lamps, or candles and charcoal in anticipation of power failure
  2. Prepare a first aid kit and store ready to eat foods
  3. Keep cell phones fully charged
  4. Elevate household things in case of flooding
  5. Secure fishing boats in safe areas
