Aside from the fascinating view of the Mayon Volcano, Albay has been one of the Philippines top tourist spots because of its diverse awe-inspiring sights.
Most of these sites have been long preserved and taken cared of by the government. One of these includes the Kawa – Kawa Hill and Natural Park located at Tuburan, Ligao City. Many set trek to this cauldron like hill not only to take beautiful pictures and stay fit and healthy but to pay devotions to the Passion of Christ.
ABOUT KAWA-KAWA HILL AND NATURAL PARK
The 25 hectare Kawa – Kawa Hill and Natural Park is owned by former Albay Representative Fernando V. Gonzales. It is also known as one of Albay’s most popular religious sites. It is primarily dedicated to the Way of the Cross having life-size statues in each of the 15 Stations of the Cross lining the 500 meter path and around the crater’s 836 meter rim beginning with The Last Supper at its foot. These sculptures were made by Condrado Balubayan, a sculptor from Sta. Cruz, Laguna.
Through the donations of Albay pilgrims, the Divine Mercy Shrine and Carmelite Monastery now welcome visitors of the famous hill without a hilltop.
Aside from being a popular pilgrimage site, it has also become a venue for exercise, therapy and health improvement. The invigorating view of Mayon Volcano, Ligao City and its nearby towns namely Guinobatan, Oas, Polangui and Libon are rewards for a thirty-minute perspiring trek.
Truly Kawa – Kawa is a haven for tired souls seeking oneness with nature and God as what Gonzales had envisioned. It is a place perfect for photography, fitness and solemnity.
Ever since the Natural Park opened no admission charges were given to the visitors. It is opened so that people can learn to embrace the environment and nature.
